Welcome to Twelfth Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)

We are the oldest African American Disciples of Christ
congregation in the greater Washington, Metropolitan
region.
We are a spiritually centered family of believers forever embracing the extensive nature of Christ and his resurrection.
We are a mainstream Protestant denomination placing our primary emphasizes on
Word, Sacrament and, Service.
We believe in a practical gospel that challenges and encourages believers to seek a deeper understanding of and purpose for their Christian faith.

Twelfth Street Christian Church is well known for its hospitality and friendliness.   We are a "gentle congregation" believing and living by the principals and teaching of Jesus Christ and the eternal hope declared absolute in His word preached. God's grace and mercy dwells in our sanctuary and God's word of hope and salvation remain our call to service.
We look forward to worshiping God with you.

                                                                     John the Beloved Disciple

John is the brother of James (the Elder) and son of Zebedee. His mother's name was Salome. John was known as the "Beloved Disciple." John was the only disciple who was with Jesus Christ from the beginning of his ministry, during His crucifixion, and as a witness to His Resurrection. John wrote the books of John, First John, Second John, Third John and Revelation. He and his brother James were known as the "Sons of Thunder." John was very loyal to Jesus and was loved greatly by Him. Many attempts were made to martyr John, however; he was the only Disciple to live a long life, and died a natural death.
